Terms of use

Last updated: 3 November 2026.

Your licence to use the Handback app is Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms add what's specific to Handback.

Who we are

Handback is run by Jasper Sion, a sole trader, at 13 Moor Oaks Road, Sheffield S10 1BX, United Kingdom. Email support@handback.tech.

Passes

  • Rental pass (£4.99): unlocks the comparison, the evidence pack and the dispute letter for the one rental it was bought for.
  • Annual pass (£14.99 a year): unlocks the same for every rental while it's active. It renews automatically each year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
  • Scanning and sealing records are always free.
  • Handback needs an iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
  • You buy passes from Apple, which takes payment and handles refunds. You may have a right to cancel a purchase of digital content within 14 days, which can end once you start using it; ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Your statutory rights are not affected.

What Handback does and doesn't do

  • Handback helps you photograph a hire car, seal the record on your iPhone, compare scans and draft a letter. Whether a charge is withdrawn is decided by the rental company, your card issuer, an ombudsman or a court.
  • Handback isn't insurance and isn't legal advice. Check any letter before you send it.
  • The comparison marks squares that look different. A difference isn't proof of damage, and missing one doesn't mean there was none.
  • The check page at handback.tech/verify shows when our server first received a record, whether its signature matches, and whether we could confirm it came from the Handback app on a real Apple device. That doesn't show what the camera saw. It's provided with reasonable care and skill; we can't guarantee it will always be available.

Your records

Your photos stay on your iPhone. Handback deletes a rental and its records 12 months after the return date, or later if a dispute is open (the privacy policy has the details), and each rental's screen shows the date. Share the evidence pack and keep your own copy if you might need it for longer.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, we aren't liable for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for the outcome of any dispute with a rental company.

Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or the EU, you keep the protection of your local consumer law and can bring a claim in your local courts.
